A bizarre interruption - Problems updating this site - Resolved

More than a week ago, I was trying to log onto my site for maintenance when I learned that the account for this site had been suspended. I checked with the people that host this site and learned that a miscommunication had occurred with the company they work with, resulting in the suspension. I was assurred that it would be taken care of immediately.

It was corrected quickly and I was able to access www.patterncraft.com from work. Due to a firewall restriction, I can't access the account for maintenance or to read my email from work.

I haven't been able to access the site, either for viewing or for maintenance, since. We don't know what the problem is.

The problem was resolved tonight. It turned out to be a problem with a firewall at the datacenter that hosts this site.

I'll begin posting again Thursday night.

150th birthday of Natural Selection - Year of Darwin begins

Today is the 150th anniversary of the reading of papers to the Royal Society by Darwin and Wallace that introduced the world to Natural Selection. This was the moment the world first got a glimpse of the theory of evolution and was the birth of modern biology.

This is the first day of the Darwin Year - a year-long commemoration of this event and what flowed from it.

To be more accurage, Darwin's Year-and-a-Half, for 2009 is the 200th anniversary of Darwin's birth.
